Lyn

Hello,
My name is Lyn.  I am a single woman living in New York City.  I work in the movie industry, mostly in the New York area, but sometimes around the country and overseas.  I had always hoped to get married and have a family with children to love and nurture and although I am still open to meeting the right man, I know in my heart that I am ready to share my love with a child and that adoption is the answer to my dream of becoming a mother.

I grew up on Long Island about an hour outside the city with my parents, an older brother and a younger sister.  We are a close family and are very involved in each other’s lives, often vacationing together.  My sister lives in Maryland with her husband, a daughter and two sons, and my brother, his wife and their two daughters now live in the house we grew up in — a house my father designed and built.  After my father passed away a few years ago, my mother downsized to an apartment right off the main house.  I spend a great deal of time out there, especially in the summer enjoying the pool with the kids.

My father’s parents were immigrants from a small island off Croatia and I grew up surrounded by their rich accents and traditional cooking.  Our large family has always stayed in touch with our European relatives and I helped organize a family reunion in Croatia in 2007 with over 40 people making the trip.  It was such a success we are planning another one for the summer of 2013.  My mother comes from a big Irish-German Catholic family as she was one of five sisters and a brother.  We all get together often for holidays and for our annual summer beach party.

My brother, sister and I grew up with the arts, education, and athletics being very important.  We all played sports and the next generation continues this tradition with soccer, basketball, track, gymnastics, skiing and golf.  I played soccer in a city Irish women’s league for years and I currently stay in shape with running and workouts at my local Y.  I also continue to have great interest in all the arts.  My father in particular instilled in me a love of architecture and design, both in houses and gardens.  With his help I designed and renovated three of my apartments.  The arts continue to be an important part of my life, and most of my friends have at least one foot in the creative world.

At Penn State, my father and brother’s alma mater, I studied art and film and recently I had the pleasure of being invited back to guest teach several film classes.  After graduating, I moved to New York where I made my way into the movie business.  Initially, I worked in the Art Department helping with the design of the sets, but for most of my career I worked as a scout in the Locations Department finding the real sites needed for the different scenes.  In 2004 I was the Location Manager on Steven Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds” and since then I’ve often worked on action films including, “Bourne Ultimatum,” “The Taking of Pelham 123,” and “American Gangster.”  A few years ago, I made a career move up the ladder and became a Production Manager, a position that gives me more flexibility to take on less work when I do become a parent.  In this capacity I’ve worked on such films as “Eat, Pray, Love” and last summer’s “Salt” with Angelina Jolie.  It was inspiring to see Angelina, the most famous adoptive parent in the world, be such a supportive mother while she continued to work – including doing some crazy stunts!

Travelling is another one of my passions and I have been to many beautiful and interesting places around the world.  Some trips are for work, but most are through a network of friends and family scattered about the globe.  I also have close friends who work on the Olympics and I’ve often been able to tag along with them when the games are held every two years.  I’ve been to Greece, Croatia, France, Italy, Austria, England, Scotland, Thailand, China, Canada, Mexico and just this past winter I went to Argentina.  Every trip has been an adventure and has given me great insight into what a diverse, wonderful, and often complicated world we live in.

Living in New York City is wonderful.  I can’t wait to share with my child all the fantastic things about my hometown: the culture, the diversity, the excitement, the food, and the great people.  I’ve lived all over the city, but I’ve always felt the most at home in Brooklyn with its family oriented neighborhoods and more laid back pace.  So four years ago, I bought a very old and very sweet little brick townhouse in Brooklyn with a big garden in the back.  Though in rough shape when I got it, I had a lot of fun renovating.  I knocked down walls on the ground floor to create an open plan for the living room and kitchen, but on the second floor I left the two bedrooms intact.  The baby’s room is in the back overlooking the garden.
My backyard has a barbecue and a large table for entertaining, and a small lawn which will be perfect place for the baby to play.  I’m in an historic area with great schools and I was thrilled to find a house directly across the street from a park with two beautiful children’s playgrounds, a dog run, and a bandshell for summer concerts.

I am so fortunate to be surrounded by loving family and friends who are so supportive.  One of my closest friends was adopted herself and quite a few of my friends, family and acquaintances have adopted.  I have seen the happiness it has brought them and I am eager to bring that same happiness to a child, and to experience the rewards of being a parent.  I am a positive, energetic person with a lot of love to give and I can’t wait for the opportunity to become a mother and to share all my blessings with a daughter or son.  I hope that after reading my letter you will consider me as a possible adoptive parent for your child.
